Privacy
What HUME keeps, what the server sees and what never leaves your browser.

In short
HUME has no accounts, forms, comments, advertising or analytics. It uses no third-party cookies and neither sells nor shares data with anyone.
What your browser keeps
Only what the site needs to work. None of it leaves your browser, except the language cookie, which is sent to the server to show you the page in the language you chose.
| Name | Where | What for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
hume-lang | Cookie | The language you pick with the switch. Only created if you use it. | 1 year |
hume-session | sessionStorage | A random session id shown in the interface. | Until the tab closes |
hume-booted | sessionStorage | That you have already seen the boot sequence. | Until the tab closes |
hume-inapp-stay | sessionStorage | That you chose to stay in an app's browser. | Until the tab closes |
hume-visited | localStorage | That you have been here before: the boot sequence is shorter. | Until you clear it |
hume-booted-at | localStorage | Only in app browsers: the time of the last boot, for 30 minutes. | Until you clear it |
You can clear all of it by deleting this site's data in your browser settings. If you block it, the site works the same.
Your approximate location
On start-up, the system check shows your approximate country and city. The hosting service (Vercel) infers them from your IP address and they only appear on your screen: HUME does not keep, log or send them to anyone. When they are not available, your device's time zone is used.
The "Terminal" row describes your device and browser from what the browser itself exposes. It is worked out on your device and not sent.
Server logs
Like any website, the hosting (Vercel) logs the requests it receives (IP address, date, page requested and browser) to keep the service running and secure, for as long as its policy sets. HUME does not use those logs to identify you or to build profiles. Vercel's privacy policy ↗
Live data
The satellites, the Space Station and the flights in the Observatory are requested by HUME's server from CelesTrak and The OpenSky Network: your browser does not connect to them, so they never get your IP address. Fonts and every other resource are served by the site itself.
Links and donations
Links to official documents and to PayPal open those sites, which apply their own policies. Donations happen entirely on PayPal and HUME loads none of its code. If you donate, PayPal shares with the editor what it shows anyone who receives a payment, usually your name and email, used only to keep a record of the donation.
Contact
